“Reading is a feast for the mind and spirit, and a source of lasting joy,” says Jesus Manuel Torrento in his article entitled, “We Become What We Read.” Yes, he is right and I agree. But why should I have to read? Is it really a necessity? What benefits will I be achieving through reading?
Articles, stories, poems and other reading materials were made for me, for you and for everyone. These were composed not for us to watch, but for us to read and understand so that we will be able to share our knowledge and thoughts to others.
Some people treat reading as their pastime and it means that it is not compulsory. But I can say that they are still voracious readers because instead of doing messy things, they choose to read and that has made all the difference.
I am a reader too, a functional reader I suggests. I do understand what I read, I share and I am applying it in my everyday living. I’ve known several things which others don’t know, I’ve absorbed many facts and I can give my opinions – these are what I have learned through reading. Books were gifts of my mom to me for she said that she wants me to be a good reader and for me to be a good leader too.
In every aspect of my life, I need reading; I need books, especially when I need to take advanced readings. I read not only when I am stressed and depressed, but also everytime I have nothing more to do. Such joyful stories make me feel happy even just when I am reading. Funny jokes give me chances to make other people smile and laugh. But at this time, articles which are useful in my education are the things I must read and yet, I’m already used to it.
A book was published and given to me for me to read and I won’t miss any chance by wasting my time in doing any unnecessary things. Answers during recitations are cited by students like me because we have the knowledge. And by reading, our knowledge is continuously enriched, lives are extended too.
The life of an individual on earth is too short. Thus, we must not waste our time in doing messy things. Why not extend our lives? I won’t miss any opportunity of having a book to read.
Reading makes me whole. I won’t have my knowledge if I don’t read. And to continuously enhance my knowledge, I must read! Yes, I must!
